Wellness & Prevention
Acupuncture positively influences systemic body function which makes it an excellent treatment option for helping one maintain good health and prevent disease. In the West, we usually only consider acupuncture for treating specific conditions. In the East, acupuncture and Chinese Medicine have been used for thousands of years as a low-tech and cost-effective means of not only addressing health concerns, but just as importantly as a means of helping to maintain and improve one’s health.
The neurophysiologic response prompted by acupuncture serves to cue the immune system which helps the body ward off illness or at least recover more quickly, regulates various body systems to ensure better digestion and sleep, improves circulation and prompts the release of endogenous analgesic and anti-inflammatory biochemicals for control of pain and inflammation, and modulates the autonomic nervous system to address heightened or chronic low-level stress that for too many is a constant companion. These types of responses, achieved to varying degrees, help improve a person’s quality of life and sense of well-being.
Of course, patients must take responsibility for their health. A varied and well-balanced diet, regular moderate exercise, and other healthy lifestyle choices all play a critical role in achieving and maintaining good health. Incorporating acupuncture and Chinese Medicine into one’s healthcare regimen simply provides a person another means of feeling better and being well.
